Artists in conversation
First in a series to be determined...
I do not write into the void. I also leave words on paper to send to the future, just as my grandmother did. Poems and stories to be discovered when there is no more Internet.
Can you imagine such a world? I can—I grew up in it. What do you think will happen if the grid goes down? Even permanently.
My grandmother matured during an era without electricity, and she left me a treasure trove of poems, along with three short stories. Small package it is I have discovered, but just enough for me to imagine the girl behind the woman. And learn from her.
My grandmother’s words called me to have conversations with writers and artists, like her. Whether fine artists, photographers or those of us who wield the pen instead of the sword. No matter the form.
I must follow her will.
Frida Kahlo (1907 - 1954):
I paint my own reality. The only thing I know is that I paint because I need to, and I paint whatever passes through my head without any other consideration. * Frida Kahlo
In conversation with Frida:
I must write. The only thing I know is that I write because I need to, and I put pen to paper no matter what passes through my head. When I read another artist’s words, I let all of them in—without any other consideration. They are ghosts from the past who travel with me as I venture into an unknowable future.

I think about this often. I have at least 30 notebooks with scribbles and cursive poems written inside them. You are leaving a legacy, just as your Grandmother did, and its worth is immeasurable.
Yes, and don't stop sharing. The words you post here reach more people than the words in a book will do....probably... maybe we should work on a zine or something. It's the Beat Generation who made it famous...so why not? To be discussed another time, for sure.
